Chamber President Update - The Stimulus Bill
Leslie Hielema<br>President<br>Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerc The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, or Stimulus Bill, consists of $789 Billion. Funds are divided among the following priorities: education, state and local fiscal relief, tax relief, infrastructure and science, health care, protecting the vulnerable, energy, and other. This means funds will be spent on sectors such as transportation, environmental infrastructure, energy, housing, small businesses, job training, health, public safety, childcare, education, arts, and broadband. United Way Administered Emergency Food and Shelter Program Receives $1.2 Million to Help Local People in Need
With Central Florida’s unemployment rate at 9 percent and rising, many laid-off workers are finding it difficult to pay for food, rent, utilities and other basic necessities. Responding to the crisis, Heart of Florida United Way (HFUW) recently announced that a federal program it administers has received a $1.2 million grant to help people who are dealing with economic emergencies.

Polejes Named CEO, Florida Bank of Commerce
Florida Bank of Commerce (FBC) recently announced that Craig Polejes, president, has been named CEO. He will remain in his role as FBC president, while taking on the responsibilities of his new position. Polejes is a Past Chairman of the Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce.
