myregion.org announced recently the City of Kissimmee as its first “Open for Business Streamlined Permitting Certified” jurisdiction in Central Florida. Open for Business – the Central Florida Coalition for Growth & Prosperity represents the eight-county Central Florida service footprint (Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Polk, Seminole, Sumter and Volusia counties) and is managed by myregion.org, a "Line of Business" of the Central Florida Partnership.
In this regard, the City of Kissimmee has posted the “Open for Business” section on its website, which can be accessed from its home page.
The certification is awarded based on evaluation of the following areas:
- A demonstrated positive and proactive customer service attitude in the staff project review team;
- A Pre-Application Review process to work with the customer and make the project a reality;
- Implementation of procedures designed to minimize customer costs during the pre-application and preliminary review process;
- An ability to provide one point of contact to guide the customer throughout the entire approval process and establish aggressive timelines for project approvals;
- Continuous review of processes to minimize approval steps and implement improvements
The City of Kissimmee has being working for several years to improve the development review and permitting process. This certification demonstrates Kissimmee’s ongoing pro-business attitude and commitment to responding to the needs of the evolving development community.
Kissimmee’s Economic Development Director, Belinda Ortiz Kirkegard, said “our City has a tremendous amount of redevelopment opportunities, and this certification is just one more way we’re working to welcome investors to our City.”
Open for Business was created by the Central Florida Coalition for Growth and Prosperity, a coalition of Central Florida business associations to address the region's economic recovery. They focused on identifying economic and regulatory barriers and then provided recommendations to collectively encourage economic prosperity for business growth and expansion, thus allowing more Central Floridians to "get back to work."
Kissimmee Development Services Director, Craig Holland stated, “Kissimmee has and will continue to pay close attention to individual business needs balanced with a sharp focus on community priorities. We are excited to be a regional trendsetter in a streamlined permitting process and will continue to do what it takes to make businesses welcome in Kissimmee”.
